Who is YAR?
YAR, a board of youth and adults, funds up to $1000 to students (elementary a thru college age) who have projects ideas that improve their communities. Our mission is to provide the opportunity for youth to make a difference in the community through funding for service projects.

Why YAR?
“Here are my Top Ten Ways YAR has made a difference in the lives of youth:
10. Empowered them by nudging adults to share some power
9. Helped classrooms of children experience what they’re learning through service
8. Helped church youth groups move from serving soup to establishing food pantries
7. Helped scout troops go from canned food drives to voter registration drives
6. Helped economically disadvantaged youth mobilize resources in their own neighborhoods
5. Helped troubled youth believe in themselves and their abilities
4. Helped delinquent youth turn around perceptions of them as “bad kids”
3. Helped disabled youth build pride that they are on the giving, and not just the receiving, end of service
2. Helped rural youth realize that not all social problems are urban. Helped urban youth realize the same thing.

And the #1 way YAR has made a difference in the lives of youth -

1. Helped youth learn that by working together, nothing is impossible to achieve.”
Written by Paula Allen to Jack Calhoun, founder of YAR,
when he retired from the National Crime Prevention Council.
